Sucker for Love King in Yellow: Estir Route & Lore

Estir is the King in Yellow in Sucker for Love: First Date. Her Chapter 2 route uses the yellow playbook; its standard sequence ends with The Yellow Sign and the King in White ending. This page separates character lore from route instructions and secret variants.

Verification boundary: Gameplay facts were last reviewed against cited sources on October 4, 2026. Community-discovered routes are labelled and may change after patches.

Who is the King in Yellow in Sucker for Love?

In a GameMaker interview, lead developer Joseph Hunter explains that Hastur inspired Estir and that the rivalry with Cthulhu shaped her inclusion. The interview also identifies Estir as the King in Yellow. This is evidence for the game’s adaptation, not a claim that every literary version of the mythos shares that interpretation.

Estir’s Chapter 2 ritual sequence

Spoilers; historical community-guide instructions, not a newly tested run. Lazarus’s original Steam guide lists this order. Keep the live playbook open for each ritual’s room and item requirements.

  1. Begin with Act I: Invitation and Eldritch Mouth.
  2. After the route conversation, select the yellow playbook using the lower-right book control.
  3. Perform Masquerade. Inspect the mirror, then click it to activate the interaction.
  4. Continue through Act 2: Constellation, Banquet, Act 3: Eclipse and The Yellow Sign.

The guide labels the standard result King in White. Avoid mixing Ln’eta’s rituals into this baseline; mixed routes can change the outcome.

Stuck at the mirror or getting a different result?

The mirror interaction above is the specific Masquerade input documented by the guide. For other failures, compare the active book, current instruction and room state rather than importing requirements from another game. Keep a baseline save separate from experiments so you can identify which choice changed the result.

Secret-route limitation: the old guide’s Banquet secret instructions have conflicting reader reports. We do not present that variant as guaranteed. Use the Chapter 2 endings guide to plan branch saves, and check the in-game instruction before changing a working route.

Frequently asked questions

Who is Estir based on?

Developer Joseph Hunter identifies Hastur as the inspiration for Estir in his GameMaker interview.

How do you activate the Masquerade mirror?

The historical Steam guide says to inspect the mirror and then click it; simply looking at it is not the documented interaction.

Is King in White a different game?

No. It is the ending label used by the guide for the standard Estir Chapter 2 sequence in First Date.

Is Estir in Crush Landing?

This route concerns First Date Chapter 2, not Crush Landing’s color-and-visitor system.
